NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The St. Michael the Archangel Chapter of the National Honor Society is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Students are selected for membership by majority vote of a five-member principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each May.

The members of our chapter, besides having strong academic records, are leaders in many student activities and serve our school and wider community through various service projects.  They effectively demonstrate the Society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, which go hand in hand with SMA’s core values of knowing truth, loving God, and serving others.

Students in grade levels 11 and 12 are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a cumulative average grade of 90% or better. Each spring those students in grade levels 10 and 11 who meet this criterion are invited to complete a Candidate Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service. The candidate’s character is discerned through a review of school disciplinary records and faculty members’ professional recommendations.
